Four useful housing distinctions
piso is especially common for flat in Spain; apartamento is widely understood and departamento is common in much of Latin America.
alquiler can mean rent or rental; renta and arriendo are common regional alternatives.
fianza often means a security deposit in Spain; depósito is widely understood elsewhere.
gastos can cover charges or expenses, but the written contract should specify exactly what is included.
