Spanish rental car phrases

Handle the rental in four stages

At the counter, give the reservation name and confirm the vehicle, transmission, named drivers and return time. Ask what the quoted rate includes instead of assuming.

Before leaving, walk around the car with staff. Point out existing damage, photograph the condition where permitted and confirm the fuel or charge level shown in the agreement.

On the road and at return, contact the rental company for warning lights, breakdowns, accidents or late arrival. Coverage, deposits, tolls and fuel policies vary, so rely on the signed agreement and current staff instructions.

Short replies worth recognising

Está incluido en la tarifa — it is included in the rate. Ask which item the reply refers to.

Tiene que devolverlo con el depósito lleno — you must return it with a full tank. Confirm the recorded starting level.

Ese daño ya está registrado — that damage is already recorded. Make sure it appears on the condition report.

Puede dejar las llaves en el buzón — you may leave the keys in the drop box. Use only the company’s authorised return procedure.
