What should you say at a pharmacy in Spanish?
Ask for a farmacéutico or farmacéutica and use short facts: where it hurts, when symptoms began, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and medicines you already take. Bring the original packaging and prescription when possible.
Farmacia is used throughout the Spanish-speaking world. A late-opening or duty pharmacy may be called farmacia de guardia in Spain and farmacia de turno in much of Latin America.
Medication rules, brands, strengths and emergency numbers vary by country. Ask a licensed pharmacist or clinician before taking a medicine. For severe symptoms or an emergency, contact local emergency services immediately.
Four safe patterns for the pharmacy counter
Necesito + infinitive states the task: Necesito hablar con un farmacéutico.
Me duele + body part describes pain without guessing the cause.
Tengo + noun reports a symptom or document: Tengo fiebre; Tengo una receta.
¿Puede + infinitive? asks the pharmacist to repeat, write or explain information.
