Move through the terminal in four stages
At the ticket counter, name the destination and confirm whether you need a one-way or return ticket. Ask for the departure time and whether the service is direct instead of assuming.
Inside the terminal, check the displayed destination and ask for the andén, which may mean a bay, stand or platform depending on the country and operator. Keep your ticket and luggage label accessible.
For delays, transfers and arrival stops, repeat the place and time you understood. Timetables, baggage rules and stop names change, so follow the current operator display and staff instructions.
Short replies worth recognising
Solo ida o ida y vuelta — one way or return. Choose before the ticket is issued.
Sale del andén doce — it leaves from bay twelve. Check the destination display too.
Puede guardar la maleta abajo — you can store the suitcase underneath. Follow the driver’s directions.
Lleva veinte minutos de retraso — it is running twenty minutes late. Treat that as a current estimate.

Regional note: autobús is widely understood. Bus, colectivo, camión, guagua and ómnibus are common in different regions. Andén, dársena and plataforma may label the departure area; use the terminal’s own wording.
