Spanish nature vocabulary

How should beginners learn nature words in Spanish?

Learn the article with the noun: la montaña, el río, el bosque. The article stores gender at the same time as meaning.

Use hay to introduce something in a scene: Hay una cascada. Use estar to locate a known feature: La cascada está cerca del sendero.

Keep nearby meanings separate. A bosque is a forest or wooded area; a selva is dense, often tropical forest. Piedra usually means a stone, while roca is a larger rock or rock material.

Four patterns for describing a landscape

Hay + un/una introduces a feature: Hay una isla en el lago.

El/La… está… locates a known feature: La cueva está bajo el acantilado.

Use en and junto a for simple relations: El río está en el valle; la playa está junto al mar.

Add an adjective after the noun: una montaña alta, un río ancho, una playa tranquila.
